Divinations is an ongoing series documenting tarot spreads involving a photograph of an individual. A portrait is more than just an image on paper; it contains not only the indexical likeness of the subject (ideal for setting intention), but a direct connection to that person’s energy as well. Paired with the channeling nature of an unbiased, pure tarot reading, a portrait allows one access to insights about the subject’s personality otherwise unattainable without them being physically present for the reading.

The first part of this series pertains to the current Presidential Cabinet as it stands, documenting the end result of the reading for each member, dubbed House of 78 Cards. Achieved by channeling the energy of the politician through an official photograph of them, each spread answers two neutral and uncharged questions:

On the left – “As part of the Trump administration and cabinet, what do you bring to the table?”, followed by a second card below it for additional insight. This is an unbiased channel of the subject’s key characteristics.

On the right – “As part of the Trump administration and cabinet, how will your actions affect your respective department?”, followed by a second card below it for additional insight. This is an unbiased channel of effects due the subject’s actions.

Viewers should challenge their own intuition to interpret the readings. Prior knowledge of tarot is not required – viewers should allow their instincts to guide them through the images. Short interpretations by the artist can be found on Instagram by following @houseof78cards

The deck used is a Japaridze, known for its depth of imagery and perceptive accessibility, and was cleansed and charged before channeling.
